Update on Tracy and Kara

I talked to Tracy last night, and she said it had been a "restful day". Elaine had taken most of the children to her house for the day....all except Andrea and Kara. Kara can't risk getting her head hit again for the next month. And Andrea, being the oldest, can keep things running along smoothly on the home front.

Tracy said the pain medication makes her nauseated, so it's a choice between the pain or the nausea. Not a fun choice. However, the midwife told her not to try to be a Supermom, and just to take the meds as she needs them.

Tracy's 2 main prayer requests right now are:
  1. that she'll know the right amount of medication to take, so as not to harm the baby at all.
  2. that her shoulder will heal properly so that she will be able to nurse this baby when it comes. She has already had problems in the past with this same shoulder when nursing. She really doesn't want to have surgery, but understands it may be necessary once the drs look at it postpartum.

Kara didn't want to discuss the accident at ALL with Hanna on the phone last night. Tracy said it was pretty traumatic for her. There are also all sorts of interesting things that the other kids are doing now, that Kara doesn't get to do, like going to Elaine's house yesterday, Kim's house today, etc....so our family is going to try to put something fun together for Kara! (Johnny's idea.)

One thing that struck me yesterday in the midst of all our focus on Tracy/Kara....was the fact that my brother came dangerously close to losing his wife and 6 of his children. I hadn't even thought of it from his perspective before that! He said he was SO glad that when he was called by the authorities, they told him right away that there were no fatalities, because when he drove up and saw the bus, he would not have believed that very many people could have lived through the accident! Tracy had already been taken in the ambulance by that time.

Bradley (3 yrs old) (in camo shirt below) always seems to come up with cute comments, and this time it was, "Mommy, next time we have a bus accident, can you make sure I get to ride in the ambulance with you?"

Tracy did mention too, that she is loving all the calls and e-mails. All the friends and family who have shown them love in the last few days have just filled their hearts to overflowing...I could hear it in her voice, even as she said it.

This is a picture of Kara (with our Allison) from September when we were there. And in the group picture of the Nymeyer children (minus Courtney) and all of our children, Kara is front center.
