Bathroom Renovation

Johnny repainted our bathroom, and it looks so beautiful now!
Going from stark white to deep green is a bold change, and was much needed.
The best part is that he let the kids all help....well, the oldest 4 mostly.
It required boat-loads of patience on his part (and some real cleaning up afterwards!), but they sure did have a good time!
The girls found that they love caulking.....maybe even more than the painting!
Nice crew we have built-in here!  :)

well, he's not much real help yet - but he sure was cute!

.......and here's the finished product!!!

Johnny and Jessica's Birthday!

Jessica turned 5....and Johnny turned 39.....they love the fact that they share a b-day!

Someone got into the frosting when we weren't looking!

Jessica couldn't decide which to dive into first!....the presents or the cake!
Chocolate - of course!  (at Jessie's specific request)

Round Loom

For Marissa's birthday last week, we gave her a set of Knifty Knitter round looms.  What a fun craft!  Even a child can make super cute hats and other projects very, very easily!

This was her first project.  A charcoal-gray hat.  Turned out adorable!

There are lots of good books to buy for this hobby, and tons of free
patterns/directions on the web!
We highly recommend it!
Wal-Mart has the best price on the loom set.

Gingerbread House

This post is especially for our niece in NZ, due to her fondness for gorgeous gingerbread houses.  I doubt ours would even make it to her blog as a top-rated specimen, but hey, this was our first!  The next one might turn out better!!! (or worse!)

Sooooooooo............Johnny made a gingerbread house w/ the girls and Chase.
Half-way through the messy construction stage, I heard Hanna say to Johnny,
"I'll lick your fingers for you when you're done...(giggle, giggle)!"

At this point, it was supposed to sit/set for 15 minutes.  Notice Johnny's hand beginning to cramp, and Chase taking full advantage of any and all excess icing in the seams!

Certain people were trying to get it "just right", while others...............

were just looking for opportunities to snack!

Note the finger paths made in the red sugar dust....
and the missing candies off the tree!
Believe me, nothing was going to waste!

The candies were coming off as fast as they were going on!  However, we all concluded in the end that these little kits were made to LOOK AT, NOT EAT.  The "icing" is hardly edible.  Tastes rather fake and made the kids sick!  The Red #40 probably didn't help much either!

What do ya think?  Does ours look like the picture on the box!?  LOL!

Where did this come from!???!

This is a conversation I overheard this afternoon from the other room:

(It was in grown-up tones)....

Jessica:  Hi Are you a city girl.  A really city girl?

Hanna:  Yes, my name is Holly Wood.

Jessica:  What???!!!

Hanna:  And I live in Holland.

Jessica:  Well, you need to learn to be a really good tomgirl.  Like me.

Hanna:  Well, my mom hasn’t taught me that yet.

These are the culprits.

Roasting Apples

Have you ever heard of roasting apples in a campfire?
S'Mores are fun, but this was a new idea, and we loved it!

Using a melon baller, or some other useful kitchen gadget, remove the core of the apple working from the stem end.  Leave the blossom end intact.

Put a bit of butter and some cinnamon/sugarinto the cavity.

Wrap in heavy-duty foil.
(I'm not sure if the heavy-duty is necessary - but that's what was used.)
Put the wrapped apples into the base of the campfire....and in about 3-5 minutes they're ready!
You don't want them super-soft....just barely "cooked" and hot.

Very good!
We thought it would be fun to be really fancy sometime and make Baked Apples this way - w/ crumb topping inside...you know: oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, butter, etc.
Worth trying!
Emelie and 2 of her friends.

This dog stole and ate an entire bag of marshmallows!  Jessica still let him kiss her. :)

Army or Cowboy?

Chase wears one of these outfits all day every day!
As soon as he wakes up, he looks for his "cowboy hat" or his "army man stuff".
All BOY!!!!!
