You can't see a whole lot coming up out of the ground quite yet, but by a collosal family effort we got the entire garden planted on Friday. So far the scarecrow and the tin pie pans banging around w/ the wind are doing their job of keeping deer and rabbits and crows away. Beyond that, we sprayed the 4 corners of the garden and the scarecrow w/ perfume....another measure to keep deer at bay....and actually, it might keep EVERYONE away! You walk downwind of the garden, and you'll get knocked off your feet! (Never give Emelie free rein w/ a perfume bottle!)
The strings along EVERY row are to keep children from tromping over the plants/seedlings. String is cheap, and it has worked beautifully! They can actually SEE where the stuff is supposed to be coming up! If we actually beat the deer and rabbits to our produce this year....we'll have to post some pictures of our bounty!!!!!
Wow! I can't wait to see what comes up. How exciting...and tasty! =]
ReplyDeleteWhat a BIG garden! If you don't mind listing...what did you plant?
ReplyDeleteWe're hoping to get some of ours in soon, but the seed potatoes are all sold-out in this area. Guess everyone believes in planting on 'good friday' because everywhere I checked today was sold out...hmmm, now I'll have to try Bourbonnais area. It's been wet and muddy but we hope to PLANT this Saturday(?) :-)
