The Miracle Worker

This weekend we took a short trip, which proved to be LOTS of fun!

On Friday we drove up to Tuscumbia, AL, to the birthplace of Helen Keller. Spring park in Tuscumbia was beautiful. The family picture below here was taken there by a huge waterfall.

That evening we watched the play of Helen Keller’s life (The Miracle Worker) in the outdoor theatre on her plantation. They perform the play on Friday and Saturday evenings in June and early July. The actors are not professionals and audition for the parts each year. It was absolutely excellent! Very well done!!! We loved it. The play lasted for 2.5 hours w/ two intermissions. Being outdoors, it was warm, but thankfully not "buggy". The final scene at the well, where Helen's mind suddenly opens up with understanding brings tears to the eyes! We highly recommend this, if you're ever in northwest Alabama this time of year. We'll definitely go again in coming years!
