Chase's Birthday

Chase turned FOUR last week, and there was much discussion about what his cake should look like.
In the end, I made (well, he HELPED ME make) 2 heart-shaped layers.  No, he wasn't going to have a heart-shaped cake.....it just so happens that those are the only kind of cake pans I own!  :)

My idea was to somehow cut those layers up and construct a pirate cake, such as we'd seen in some photos.  However, the kids asked Johnny if he could come home early from work and help them frost/construct the cake.  I was all for that, since I was not all that confident in my creative abilities.  So, when Johnny showed up mid-afternoon, the fun was on!  He took a look at the layers available, and almost immediately saw great potential!

Here was the first step.  Cake #1....A Tank

And you can see the progression in the pictures.  No explanations necessary...

And then Cake #2....A Transformer of some sort!

Now how come I couldn't "see" a tank in a heart-shaped cake!?!??!
Anyway, Johnny was truly the hero, and I'm guessing he'll get the honors from now on!
The whole presentation was quite impressive!

  1. You didn't see the "possibilities" because the word 'creative' in our minds isn't linked to "weapons of mass destruction". ;) Seriously though, that is very creative. I'll have to steal it for Houston's b-day.
