Johnny was a hero yesterday!

by Johnny.....

While I was at the land fill today dumping a load from the house renovation we’ve been doing, this man came very close to being run over by a runaway bulldozer. Charles Banister, aka Tadpole, had stepped out of the cab of his bulldozer while it was idling. It suddenly lurched into gear proceeding forward across the land fill. Charles was thrown down onto the dozer's tracks, which carried him forward and dropped him between the blade and the tracks. If you look at the picture of the bulldozer, imagine the back of his neck and head resting against the engine case of the bulldozer, his face toward you, his legs up in the air barely supported by the bulldozer’s hydraulic arm nearest you, his bottom sagging toward the ground between the blade and track, one hand hanging onto the same lower diagonal hydraulic bar across which his legs had landed. He slumped closer and closer to the ground as the bulldozer headed across the land fill. We were not aware of any of this until we felt something huge hit the front of our truck. The dozer had caught just the front corner of our bumper and was pulling the truck around. We started yelling, but then quickly realized that #1 - no one could hear us in that environment, and #2 - hey, there's no one in the cab! That's when I saw Charles' legs sticking out! Once I realized what was happening, I jumped off our flatbed trailer and ran after the dozer. Running alongside the moving bulldozer, I reached in, grabbed his free hand, pulled him up to some level of stability and then jerked him off the bulldozer and safely to the ground. The alternative would have been fatal as he was losing strength to hold on much longer with every second that passed. Another man was able to get into the bulldozer and stop it before it could do any damage.

I plan on getting together with him some time for lunch and I pray that he will let Jesus save his soul. Please pray for him.

  2. I'm sure there are no words to describe the thankfulness in that man's heart.
So glad you were there, Johnny. God is good.
