New Ride!

Johnny came home today with a go-kart....a trade he'd made for some other stuff we didn't need!  The girls were rather excited, to put it mildly.   He has it "governed down" to 15 mph for now, although it will go much faster.  I'm grateful for the governor!  Most of our children love speed!

Giving instruction.....

Happy kids!  Lots of fun.

  1. I can imagine the SCREAMS of delight! What a blast! Remember how careful Daddy was with us on our go-kart? LOL No wonder we never had broken bones. ;-)
Can't wait to see the video that John makes for his blog. LOL

  2. They all came in a while ago and said, "papa has to fix the brakes". GREAT! :)

Heather - The thing I remember most about the go-kart we had as kids was how BUMPY and low to the ground it was - we had probably worn the shocks out by the third day.
And the other thing I had almost forgotten til yesterday (when I say my own girls doing it) was how we'd fly by the other siblings waiting in line, pretending not to see them waving their arms in frantic motion, as they attempted to tell us our "turn was OVER"!
One more time down the long stone driveway, and then coming to a slow stop saying, "What? I thought I had another lap? Really? Oh well.....sorry."
    Yeah, RIGHT!

  4. And, I remember having a friend over, proud as a peacock that we had a go kart and then watching her flip the thing over and go home with a nasty wound. My favorite was wheeling around the pasture in the path we had worn down around the cow manure! I think I could still enjoy it for hours if the go kart was a little bigger! Rachel, yours looks perfect...

  5. And don't forget trying to impress the older sister's boyfriends by flying past at top speed. Or was that just me!!! Our kart was so low to the ground, every ant hill gave you a huge jolt!!
April, I still remember Leah getting burned on the exhaust. I don't think the crash was all that bad, she just got burned trying to crawl out from under the gokart.

  6. Oh my I forgot about the path in the pasture!!!!!! What fun that was!!!! The girls have MADE paths through the woods around here! Toby said he'd maybe bush-hog some of them so they're more travel-friendly!

And Chrissie, life was all about impressing the older girls' boyfriends back then. I fear for Emelie when she gets old enough....I can see it coming from the younger ones! TOO funny! Shelley and Kim must have done a lot of groaning inwardly when they saw us coming! :)

  7. Well, it gave our older sisters a perfect opportunity to see if the 'boyfriend' was
    kid friendly!

  8. Unfortunately, being the youngest, I was still trying to impress boyfriends when April & Rachel were dating. I think I grew out of it by the time Heather was dating. I think. I hope??!!

  9. Oh, my this is having me ROLLING!! Yes, the path was great because the grass was grown up all around it, so you could never be sure what was around the corner! THe bumps hurt too! Maybe that is why we are all so flat chested! LOL Permanently stunted.
Was it Leah who got hurt??? Hey, I'll bet you anything that she loved it and that is why she has got so many kids herself!! LOL
I do remember putting a Rasmussen on it...don't know which one, but he probably bent it.
Oh, yes, all that boyfriend hounding was good! It flushed out the bad ones and cemented the good ones. I truly hope my boys have that same experience when they are dating...it keeps em honest!
