While we were at BAM, I noticed the book by Bob Greene, The Best Life Diet.
Now I realize that many of you are saying "Where have YOU been?": he's apparently all over Oprah's show, since he IS her personal trainer....but I really never watch much tv, so this was honestly the first time I'd ever seen his book. Now that I think of it, I've probably seen his little Best Life Diet tags on acceptable foods in the supermarket, but I never take much notice....there are so many of those kinds of "tags"!
Ok, so back to Books A Million. I was looking through various categories, and as I passed the stand of 25 brand new glossy-covered books about Obama........I came upon a table of more interesting literature...and saw THE BEST LIFE DIET. Looking through it, I was very impressed with the balance of healthy eating, proper exercise, plenty of water, etc. It was more of a real lifestyle change that is sustainable than a "diet". He explains a whole lot that other books don't...about how different parts of the body work together. I can't describe the whole thing, of course, as I only perused the book for 10-15 minutes, but I will probably buy the book on Amazon. One thing I noticed was something about balancing how much motion/activity you have in any given day with how many calories you eat in that same day. An interesting concept! Fortunately, I can thank my genetics that I don't have a weight issue, but I just REALLY liked his very balanced approach to staying healthy and fit. If I DID have a weight problem, I would follow this program way over any others I've seen. He offers a slower, more sustainable change. SO, that's my next book, if nothing else...to just stay healthy and strong longer!! There's a cookbook available too, but it didn't look quite as interesting. Maybe after I read the first book, the cookbook will hold more interest.
Rachel - your date nights sound just about like ours. =] I got the Best Life diet book last year with every intention of incorporating it into my life...well, I never even started and I wish I had. So, it's never too late and I have already started to buy only things that are on the acceptable list and ignoring that it does cost a little more. I guess whole wheat pasta might cost a little more upfront, but it's cheaper than heart surgery and way cheaper than continuing to shop in the PLUS size. Okay. I'll stop. This is for comments, not auto biographies...love you!
ReplyDeleteHi Rachael,
ReplyDeleteI read that book from the library last year and it is excellent. He answered for me the fear of why people who diet gain it back & more. I too was drawn in by his use of the word balance. Hope you enjoy it.

Rachel,
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check that one out at the library.
I've been losing about a pound per week (average) but would like to
accelerate this just a bit. A friend bought me an elliptical and had it sent to our home!!! Isn't that incredible? I have no more excuses. Everyone has 30 minutes for an elliptical, right? :-)
Now, to find time to read that book! Love to see your recommendations for new reading material. Thank you.
